# The Essential & Performance modules: protection tailored to every discipline

For almost 10 years, In&motion airbags have been evolving through the parallel development of two key areas: **detection** and **protection**. The **Data Science** team continuously refines the accuracy of the algorithms and of the different detection modes (Street, Track, Adventure), which make it possible to **improve fall detection performance**.

Alongside the algorithms, In&motion draws on **traumatology** research carried out with several laboratories at Université Gustave Eiffel to adapt the shape of the airbag cushion. The aim is to tailor it to each discipline, as the vital areas exposed to risk differ from one to another. The results of these studies enabled the research and development teams to design **2 airbag modules:** Essential & Performance

### In&motion - Essential

Based on road traumatology, the In&motion Essential module is the perfect balance between protection and comfort, for all riding styles. As its name suggests, this airbag focuses on the essentials by covering the vital areas: **thorax, abdomen, back** and **neck**. It is recommended for **road use**, given the risk of impact with street furniture or other vehicles. It also provides protection benefits for occasional sports use.

### In&motion - Performance

Derived directly from racing, the In&motion Performance module offers coverage suited to intensive sports riding, where falls that can injure the sides of the body are frequent, but where street furniture and other vehicles are less likely to be involved. Unlike the Essential module, the abdomen is not covered during inflation, in favour of the **shoulders** and **ribs**, in addition to the **neck**, **thorax** and **back**. This module is recommended for intensive riding on **track and off-road.**

Neither module is more protective than the other. They are different because each one is tailored to a type of riding and the falls associated with it.

### Up to 8 inflations thanks to OPW

In addition to the protection benefits offered by the new modules, In&motion has also developed the airbag cushion to increase the number of inflations. On track and off-road, where falls are an integral part of riding, 3 inflations may not be enough. To meet the needs of these disciplines, the new Essential and Performance modules are designed with airbag cushions **made of OPW**, a component that allows the airbag to be used for up to 8 inflations on some products, compared with 3 previously.
